Ducts come in active and passive varieties. Due to the absence of any moving parts, ducts are passive by nature. Fans are used in active ducts to assist with airflow. In the data centre, air cooled by a computer room air conditioner (CRAC) can be pumped into the data center’s IT space through perforations in the raised floor panels after travelling through ducts into the raised floor. The duct circulates warm or cooled air without letting it escape into adjacent regions, such as above ceiling spaces. Hot and cold aisle containment uses ducting, which increases the energy effectiveness and reliability of data centres.
